Leviathan DLC Empty Leviathan DLC

Post by clennon8 Sun Jan 27, 2013 9:57 pm

I finally played it. It was an okay DLC, not great. Besides being an obvious attempt to retroactively foreshadow the ending, what did you all take away from it? How does it help or hurt IT?

Well it shows the leviathans version of indoctrination can form dreams out of a victims memories. That's pretty big.

Well, the method of communication the Leviathan use shows that the entire Catalyst conversation can easily be taking place within Shepard's own mind....

You might want to take a peek at this thread:

But there is a lot about Leviathan DLC that is IT related. Conspiracy Theorist award, in.crin8, all the references to indoctrination of course, definite proof that Shepard can be mind-controlled and all the subtle and not so-subtle references in dialogue (like "Breathe.").

Leviathan DLC Empty Re: Leviathan DLC

Leviathan really helps IT.

The only time we see Shepard on his hands and knees:

- When posessed by the computer in Overlord.
- When being hit by energy from Object Rho, the Reaper indoctrination device.
- When Leviathan takes control of his mind.

- When Shepard has just been hit by Harbinger's laser
- When Shepard is in front of the "catalyst"

Furthermore, the parallel doesn't end there.

Shepard is on hands and knees, Ann walks over and says 'Breathe'.
Shepard is on hands and knees, boy walks over and says 'Wake up'.

We can tell by the voice that Ann isn't Ann, but Leviathan.
We can tell by the voice that the child isn't a child. (His voice is dubbed with both Femshep and Broshep voices, another hint that he might just be in your head.)

Furthermore, Shepard is on a floor, while we know that (s)he is in fact still in the mech-suit.

So, this parallel scene, in which Ann isn't Ann, and Shepard isn't where he seems to be, and someone is messing with his mind, could be suggesting that when Shepard meets the "catalyst", the kid isn't what/who he seems to be, Shepard isn't where he seems to be, and someone is messing with his mind.

Also, the "catalyst" just so happens to take the shape of something he can only know about when reading your mind. Something you have been having nightmares about.

Then there's also the fact that both the words 'wake up' and 'breathe' could be seen as (4th wall breaking) references to the breath scene. Think about it. It does seem weird for Leviathan to say 'breathe'. Just as it is weird for the child to say 'Wake up', while the game makes it a point to show us that Shepard's eyes are already open.

But it doesn't even end there. The Leviathan then proceeds to tell you that they can read your mind, take your memories and use them to build illusions (at this point the game even shows you that the Leviathan can show you not just people, but also objects, like the microscope). Then it goes on to tell you that the Reapers have this same ability to influence organics, but they have perfected it over time.

In other words, the game makes it a point to tell you that the Reapers can mess with your mind a lot better than even the Leviathans can, and they even throw in all these parallels to the decision chamber scene.

Then there's also the nose bleed (apparently) caused by the Leviathan's mind control. Could be due to infrasound. Shepard has a nose bleed in the ending as well.

And there's this lovely bit of dialogue, seemingly full of hints:

Dr. Bryson: When the rest of the galaxy says something doesn't exist, I take that as a chance to prove that it does.
Shepard: So you're in it for the challenge?
Dr. Bryson: For the truth. Even as late as 2148, humanity still thought aliens were a myth, That was within my lifetime. Once that myth was proven to be reality, our entire history changed.
Shepard: Reapers were part of that reality, too.
Dr. Bryson: But even they have a history, Commander. If we can just uncover it, there may be a weakness we can exploit.
Shepard: I could've used your help three years ago.
Dr. Bryson: Yes. If people had paid more attention to your Prothean beacon, we might not be in this war. But now, with new information we've uncovered, a breakthrough is near.

Also, one of the computer screens in Bryson's lab reads:

IN.CTRN8 (In-dot-ctrn-eight)

And then there's the whole 'conspiracy theory' vibe of the DLC, even including this Xbox 360 achievement:

Leviathan DLC ConspiracyTheorist

and this:

Holy crap, DD. I've heard some of that, but that list breakdown was incredibly detailed. I've also never seen the In.crtn8 thing before either. Impressive, I love it.

I actually liked the Leviathan DLC. It almost felt as good as ME1 again which was refreshing given that ME3 lacked exploration and side quests. The overall DLC gave a different perspective to the Reapers and also told that the Leviathan created the Reapers. They also explained indoctrination to Shepard in a bit of detail, perhaps attempting to warn Shepard to help fight being indoctrinated by the Reapers?

DD said it all.

Leviathan exposes the mystery of the Reapers, within a mystery of its own.

Just as Omega exposes the hidden themes of the ending, within hidden themes of its own.

I'm wondering what the next one will bring.
