Post by shadoww6021 on Sun Mar 03, 2013 12:38 pm

we're all gamers here and music is a big part of any game, mass effect even having one of the best ever ( or at least in my opinion). with this thread i hope we can share our favourite game tracks. I'll start off with a few of my favorites.

guild wars 2: fear not this night

mass effect 3: i'm proud of you

dragon age origins: leliana's song

killzone 3 theme

the walking dead: take us back (credits)

uncharted 3 theme

oblivion theme

and there are plenty more i could list.

Katamari - Sick!! And I never say sick!! *dance*

Sword of Doom - RAWR JAPANESE FIGHTING GAME MUSIC

DDS2 - I have this game :) I love its soundtrack. Playing both games back to back, to completion (all or most sidequests), should be a test of any JRPG gamer. SMT is also good for early in life exposure and education on historical symbolism and history.

Guilty Gear - RAWR MORE JAPANESE FIGHTING GAME MUSIC! Why, western games need more of this. So epic. Beautiful music really.

Persona 4 - I have this one too. And the live album on my iPod! Almighty was where I first quit the game, but I hope to return - either on my PS2 or on a future PSVita for Golden. I'm so glad they do concerts for this.

FFX - And I have this one! Sadly, its impact on me (the game and OST) has lessened over the years. Maybe if I play it or its upcoming HD version, I would feel the magic, because so far all I remember clearly is the "HAHAHAHA" scene -_-
Just kidding, I remember a lot of it. I just don't get the 'feels' anymore. Except in Yuna's 'stand my ground and be strong' scene in Zanarkand cheers

Silent Hill 3 - Meh, Silent Hill soundtracks usually don't click as well with me. I think I have to actually play the games, lol.

~~ to OP: The only games I don't have that you showed were Killzone (they bore me) and Uncharted (no PS3) :D My library is larger than I like to think...

Katamari has goddamn amazing music. You can't help but feel joyful when playing those games.

SwobyJ wrote: Sword of Doom - RAWR JAPANESE FIGHTING GAME MUSIC

Haha, yes.

SwobyJ wrote: DDS2 - I have this game :) I love its soundtrack. Playing both games back to back, to completion (all or most sidequests), should be a test of any JRPG gamer. SMT is also good for early in life exposure and education on historical symbolism and history.

Those were my first Shin Megami Tensei games, actually. I agree; the symbolism and themes are really interesting, but that is to be expected for an Atlus game hehe.

SwobyJ wrote: Guilty Gear - RAWR MORE JAPANESE FIGHTING GAME MUSIC! Why, western games need more of this. So epic. Beautiful music really.

I'm not even good at fighting games, but I have Guilty Gear and BlazBlue just for the music :P

SwobyJ wrote: Persona 4 - I have this one too. And the live album on my iPod! Almighty was where I first quit the game, but I hope to return - either on my PS2 or on a future PSVita for Golden. I'm so glad they do concerts for this.

Persona 4 is my favorite game (the Golden is even better). So if you stopped on The Almighty, does that mean you did not get the true ending yet?

SwobyJ wrote: FFX - And I have this one! Sadly, its impact on me (the game and OST) has lessened over the years. Maybe if I play it or its upcoming HD version, I would feel the magic, because so far all I remember clearly is the "HAHAHAHA" scene -_-

I'll never stop getting the feels for FFX. It was my first real RPG, and the story really resonates with me. I must have played that game all the way through at least 4 times.

SwobyJ wrote: Silent Hill 3 - Meh, Silent Hill soundtracks usually don't click as well with me. I think I have to actually play the games, lol.

I actually haven't played Silent Hill 3 yet. I'm working through Silent Hill 2 at the moment. I just really love the singing in the later music. The woman, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, is actually a big time voice actress (she was Major Kusanagi in Ghost in the Shell) and I just love listening to her voice.

I've seen the True Ending and the bonus dungeon in Golden. So yeah, I know the story!

I grew up more on FFIX so I'm just more attached to that one. I like both. I've at least played nearly every FF, and finished around half.

Just checking. I actually have a friend that didn't know about the true ending until:

Spoiler:
He saw someone dressed as Izanami at a Persona Photo Shoot at a convention.

I haven't played FFIX yet. Honestly, I have a hard time getting past the art style. It really turns me off for some reason.

Thank you so much for making this thread! I LOVE video game music. I listen to it all day at work. Yes, being a software engineer has its advantages. Some amazing stuff on here, thanks for posting. I'm not familiar with some of these games, so it's always great to get recommendations on amazing music. Here are my favorites:

Herzog Zwei - Back to Square One
http://www.youtube.com/v/Zol5Dmr2qrg
Technosoft produced some of my favorite tunes in videogames. From Herzog Zwei to Thunderforce, there are so many tracks that stand out to me it was tough to pick just one, but this has to be my favorite.

Diablo - Tristram
http://www.youtube.com/v/ET7OEgRgwPU
Possibly the most atmospheric track I've heard. It always takes me somewhere amazing.

Metroid - Kraid's Theme
http://www.youtube.com/v/w_DwmMDCOQQ
The first time I heard a song and realized I missed it when it wasn't playing.

Final Fantasy Tactics - A Chapel
http://www.youtube.com/v/dhzrumwtwFY
Superb music here. PSX has this in abundance, of course, but this is tops for me. I chose this theme because it's the one I think of when I think FFT.

Final Fantasy XII - Eruyt Village
http://www.youtube.com/v/QOAD58HCB-c
A beautiful piece from a game I liked very much, but sadly never completed.

F-Zero GX - Fire Field
http://www.youtube.com/v/VJOvWF-Mg_o
Because after listening to Eruyt Village, you need to wake up.

EDIT:

(NOTE: only links are provided, due to page slowdown)

Awesome stuff and all in different styles!

Eruyt Village used to make me tired toooo...zzz

1. And some MMO music... from one of my MMOs, Rift (expansion 'Storm Legion'). Composed mostly by Inon Zur, known for Dragon Age, and I think others were involved like the composer for Heroes of Might and Magic. The OST isn't that great while playing (due to poor implementation imo), but the composition is good enough
Tempest Bay, the relaxing theme for the new neutral city for two new leveling (Lv 50-60) and endgame continents (10 zones, but some just merge into each other in style)

http://youtube.com/v/Gbd_p5anHnI

2. Final Fantasy XIV - Answers. (watch in HQ)
This one is damn good. I really hope the MMO's relaunch is successful.
http://youtube.com/v/JxQIciJWx9g

Really neat lyrics too!

I close my eyes, tell us why must we suffer
Release your hands, for your will runs asunder
My legs long tired, tell us where must we wander
How can we carry on with redemption beyond us

To all of my children in whom life flows abundant.
To all of my children to whom death hath passed its judgment.
The soul yearns for honor and the flesh, the hereafter.
Look to those who walked before, to lead those who walk after.

Shining is the land's light of justice,
Ever flows the land's well of purpose.
Walk free! Walk free! Walk free! Believe.
The land's alive, so believe!

[CHOIR]
Suffer (me) Lonely (me) Weakness (me) Evil (me)
although (me) one must (me) stumble (me) listen (me)
(Although we) we (might) them (we must) them (land of) hope
(Mother) hope (father) with (every) wish(has a) home
(we must go) go (listen) go (suffer) home (sanctum) leap
(And as) we (wander) sleep (answer) sleep on (on)

Feel! Face! Teach! Fear!
Feel! Face! Teach! Speak!
Speak! Tell! Tell! Hope!
Hope! Wish! Wish! Roam!
Roam! Roam! Swim!
Speak! Sleep! Sleep! Sleep on!

Now open your eyes while our plight is repeated.
Still deaf to our cries lost in hope, we lie defeated!
Our souls have been thorn and our bodies forsaken.
Bearing sins of the past for our future is taken.

War born of strife, these trials dissuade us not
Words without sound, these lies betray our thoughts.
Light, by a flame of doubt that seeks forth
Judgment binds all we hold to a memory of scorn
Tell us why, given life, we are meant to die, help us in our pride!

Weakness! Suffer! Reason!
Follow! Suffer! Wander! Listen!
Answer, Answer, Answer together!

Thy life is a river to bear rapture and sorrow.
To listen, to suffer, to entrust until tomorrow.
In one fleeting moment, from the land doth life flow
Yet in one fleeting moment for the new leaf doth grow
In the same fleeting moment one must live, die and know.

Some really great stuff here, will add my favorites as well:

Final Fantasy IX:

You're not Alone

This piece of music plays at a critical moment in the story, complimenting it immensely. Even so it is not my favorite piece from the game, my favorite piece is:

Freya's Theme

This theme has a number of remixes throughout the game, but almost all are associated with the character Freya Crescent in some way. This music spans her character, her ruined home and the love she has lost, reflecting upon her losses in a cold and haunting tune, like the falling of the rain her home is associated with.

The Legend of Zelda franchise has also shown me some great pieces of music, but none has stuck to me more than Twilight Princess's:

Midna's Lament

Once again a piece playing at a pivotal moment of the game, this piece is very different from much of the games other music which helps amplify its impact as it leaves you no doubt that this is not a normal situation. It perfectly set the mood for the scene which through a character involved came to define my love for the game.

Finally I will finish of with a Metroid Prime 3: Corruption theme:

Rundas Boss Theme

The battle against Rundas is quite spectacular, especially on the games highest difficulty and a lot of that is no doubt carried by this amazing theme.

Metro 2033 Main Theme

Just beautiful, melodic guitar play. A bit of sad tone with an ounce of hope, like so many of the other songs in the game.

Warlords Battlecry II - The Plains of Daros

I might like original Warlords series more since they are turn-based, but music has definitely been improved.

Red Alert 3 - Soviet March

Main menu theme of that game. Nice orchestral piece, IMO better than any rendition of Hell March song.

And now for something completely different:

Rayman Raving Rabbids The Butcher Deejay

Pokemon -- Arceus's Theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNVmGkp51Q0
I never expected to be so unsettled by a Pokemon game, especially with the accompanying video that plays in the game.

Streets of Rage 2 -- Stage 1-1 (Go Straight) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KC-B3Q0cRrY
I loved these games when I was young. Really great and catchy beat-em-up brawler music.

Command and Conquer -- Mechanical Man http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ap6QaDBZJwM
One Frank Klepacki's best works imo. You almost forget how slow the game is by modern RTS standards with this music :P

SMT: Strange Journey -- Furious Wrath http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9xdKC2dxOM
This game is full of bombastic orchestral music, and this is the best of the bunch. It's amazing how Shoji Meguro can seemingly compose anything.

Metal Gear Solid 3 -- Debriefing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKlNdzpICW0
So many feels, even today...

Enjoying this so much! bounce
Some really great and inspiring selections that have either piqued my interest in new games, or rekindled my nostalgia for old favorites.

Streets of Rage - Beatnik on the Ship
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ila5g7IrmI4

Command and Conquer - Creeping Upon
