Sounds like an oxymoron doesn't it? Fear not, I'm serious.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greydon_Square

"Greydon Square (born Eddie Collins on September 28, 1981) is an American rapper. He is an Iraq War veteran and an outspoken atheist who promotes discussion on philosophical issues, as well as having studied physics full time before moving on to study computer science"

This is the man you will be hearing in this video if you so choose. Here is a taste of his music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Q7Xz90t394&feature=youtu.be

Warning, he can be pretty blunt and is an anti-theist. So if you believe in any gods or afterlifes, superstitions, etc. You should still listen, the only thing that should disqualify you from listening is if you are too sensitive on this subject. If you can take criticism, etc. I'd definitely still listen, his music promotes rationality, logic, reason and science.

He is not the only one to do this, however he has gained the most publicity and attention from the masses compared to others and probably has lit the fires of many other intelligent rappers, causing people to come out of their shell not needing to fear the masses and as well freeing the rap and hip hop genres of music from corrupt music labels.

He is the founder of #GU, a group devoted to creating all forms of educational media that is also entertaining so it catches the attention of the masses. It's not just rappers, though the majority seem to be. You could be a part of it, yet be a writer... or an animator/graphic designer, etc, etc. Basically, using creativity to educate people about science and rational thought.

I thought I'd share this, because he deserves to be heard... he's really good.

BTW, here is the Lyrics for that video I linked in case you don't want to watch the video or whatever, so you can at least get a taste(Sorry for spelling errors, got it off some website):

[Verse 1]
Embedded in a sea of dark matter
My thoughts scattered
Up looking for odd patterns
I've been spewing verses
Since Galileo was shattering “earth centered universe” world views of human servants
Strong like molecular bond
I was in the Hadean Aeon writing songs
...how you gonna diss or pretend to be my enemy
Critiquing evolution but don’t know biochemistry?
That's the great thing about science
If you don’t like the hypothesis your welcome to try and falsify it
Token old men who were still using potions
Thought Newton mind was broken when he discovered motion
You value truth then proudly show it
Its never about what we know, its how we know what we know it
… the lyrical sentence that murderers would face
Like relativity describes the curvature of space is Grey

[Verse 2]
I am the knight the beat is the chessboard
So prepare your queen to get forked
Let’s war
Put me up against your best sword
You ain't even that good, I heard you at best fourth
You seem them hills over there, head for
You still on Gucci Mane I’m studying red dwarfs
They talk to you dumb, you should expect more
While listening to us be upping your test scores
We teach you physics evolution and chemistry
They teach you to hate your fellow human with bigotry
We challenge lessons ask questions and scrutinize
They challenge questions mask lessons with stupid lies
How is it fair between you and I
Even in a mental exercise you could die,
I’ve exceeded the upper and lower bounding limits of astounding digits,
Using profoundly different algorithms

[Verse 3]
You could’ve came, you had the chance
You stayed and left me to traverse the vast expanse
The only spiritual I understand is study
The pursuit of knowledge is highest regardless if there’s a guy above me
You need to look up at the stars
And wonder how many species is looking up at ours
....from the moon to mars
...we gon’ be in charge of the lunar barge
Where scientists are the superstars
Ape chatter shaped after great masters
16 bars made from 8 innate patterns
The late chapters of man escape raptures
Afraid slackers and paid actors inflate matters
Still pick up an eighth... same address
Then it’s back to the lab to deal with the same madness
If I was the insane savage they portray me as
I’d steal the fastest spaceship and straight crash it, laughing!

Nothing oxymoron about it. People who say that just brush it off as something they make the mistake comparing to rap/hip-hop that is around "now".

I've written a paper about a topic that discussed people like him for a cultural sciences class. I could try to find it if there is any interest.

But yeah, "Conscious Rap" has been around since the mid 80's and is acknowledged not only by academics.

Well yeah, don't get me wrong I know that Justin Biebers, Lil Waynes, etc are pretty much a newer thing. I was simply saying that to appeal to the annoying difficulty of finding good Rappers and Hip Hop artists. There is even some mainstream ones that are actually good, but it's far more likely you'll find someone like Lil Jon or something to that effect rapping about getting drunk and telling women to shake dat ass.

That would be cool to read that paper, I'm interested.

Just as an FYI, I meant this as in TODAY'S day and age he has pretty much gained the most attention. Not of all time or anything like that, lol

Also as an FYI, I was simply naming other rappers to maybe get people interested, not to tell you "well, there've been good rappers before him so this thread is useless"

You might like Senser, they're a politically charged British band who started in about 1989 with rapper Heitham Al Sayed and rapper/singer Kerstin Haigh on vocals.

Here's a song from their latest album out later this year: https://youtu.be/Ix9QEZ4lUjI.

Here's a couple from their best known album, Stacked Up, from 1994:

One of the best live bands I've seen as well. Hope you like it!

Intelligent Rap Empty Re: Intelligent Rap

Post by Terramine Tue May 14, 2013 11:57 am

I thought I'd share some more intelligent rap, and some atheistic(see making the distinction, for the believers out there) music that isn't rap. Both by different people than the 1st guy.

Rap: https://youtu.be/QK8lhPxSKaA

Not Rap: https://youtu.be/z-h_jNiSczw

A whole playlist, with up to 80+ songs of this kind of music that I keep updated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7d7xZwWJhGc&feature=share&list=PL1C5DADE71560D442

I made this playlist because Atheists and non-believers don't tend to have music. I mean, any song that doesn't mention god is just neutral... kinda agnostic in nature. So when I say Atheistic, it involves the expression of lacking a belief or even anti-theism.
