I love this game.

I hate this game.

Its just so damn unforgiving for even minor mistakes. Even mistakes that you have no way of knowing. Aborting mission after it prompts you? Sure, okay. Oh, my entire team was magically killed by nothing? Well gee thanks game, that's 12 hours or so wasted, let's start fresh for the 13th time.

Yeah, seriously. I'm so sick of those 'random' lucky shots from the AI that somehow hits someone at extreme range and crits just enough to kill them. And its ALWAYS my medics.

...seriously, what the hell. That campaign was going so well as well. I was actually on the verge of doing the final mission, and was just leveling up a few extra soldiers to replace late-game losses. Then boom, sorry, your Colonel Psionic Sniper, Colonel Assault, Major Heavy and Major Support Medic are all dead.

Troll lol lol lol lol fuck you game fuck you.

Why the hell do I play Iron Man in a game that's clearly utterly unfair? Apperently not telling me that I have to move my team to the extraction zone is some kind of joke - no other mission requires you to do this, the mission just ends. This one time? Ha, nope! Whole team is DEAD. I assume the ship just took off and they all died of boredom in the forests.

Attempt #13. Iron Man turned OFF. Self imposed limit on reloading missions - only if the AI pulls unfair bullshit. Don't give a fuck about the achievement when its so clearly broken.

I love this game too(also hate it of course), dont feel like playing in Ironman or a higher difficulty any time soon.

I too always lost my medics, like 3 of them

But seriously fantastic game, easily my favorite of 2012

I also love it, but it also pulls some bullshit. I never get far without save scumming.

I notice that your guys can get jammy long range criticals too, the aliens work on the same rules as the player, they just get weighted dice on higher difficulties.

I can never keep heavies or males alive for some reason.

My last attempt at running an Iron Man had my first mission going like this:

Soldiers see Aliens.
Soldiers open fire from behind good cover, all with 60% chance to hit...no one hits.
Alien lands what seems to be impossible shot, kills one soldier.
Another soldier panics and shoots a third soldier.
Last soldier panics.

And that was the end of that try...

I think I may start using three medics per mission at this rate.

Also, the S.H.I.V. mech is quite good as a scout/bulletsponge on later levels.

Seriously, what the actual fuck!

I'm spamming out satalites, planning as much as possible to avoid panic, and still RNG attacks me relentlessly so i can't possible avoid HALF THE FUCKING PLANET PANICING AT THE SAME TIME!

Come the fuck on! Is 5 Satalites in the second fucking month not enough? Its impossible to do better then that!

Fuck RNG. Campaign #13 is a bust due to the game being a dick. AGAIN.

well great, started a new playthrough, and I´m stuck with two urgent missions, if I dont do them all Asia and Europe go in panic, but my 2 best soldiers are in recovery and the rest are mostly support and snipers.
*sigh* welp, wish me luck

Salvaged that utter mess, due to not playing on Iron Man. Reloaded an older save and rushed research to open up the Base Assault mission. Which I had to do with a team of mostly rookies with substandard gear. Which wasn't easy, but I somehow did it.

Still zero casualties, low global panic. Problem now is the aliens are progressing rapidly, with multiple Muton packs in every mission and I'm still using conventional weaponry. Needless to say, I'm using a lot of explosives.

Full expansion? Those are so rare these days.

It looks really awesome too, will definitely give me encouragement for another full playthrough.

I've got it preordered already and that trailer just makes me more psyched.

Looks like there'll be a base attack, something fans of the original have been begging for forever so it must be good.

Love X:Com. Loved the original, back in the day. The new version is actually SLIGHTLY more forgiving, if you'd believe that's possible.

anyone given Enemy Within a shot yet? Looks like some of the changes open up a lot more builds and tactical possibilities!

Good to hear. I lent my Xbox copy of X-COM to a friend, so I may as well pick up the Commander Edition or whatever it is.

Okay I love the Gene terrapy in Enemy Within (mech is cool too) especially on the sniper.

Depth Perception + Damn Good Ground makes Snipers fantastic if they get a height advantage. Said Height advantage is easily attained with the Leg Gene that allows you to leap buildings and then you throw in some Camo Skin so you can easily get into place.

From there it is just all about having fun as the Sniper easily picks off the enemies who get out of position, thinking nothing is watching them.

The Gene upgrades also suddenly make South Americas instant Autopsies worth much more as it is from them you gain the Gene therapy's, especially since research was slowed down. The fact that South America is just two countries makes it easy to get as well.

As an added bonus Autopsies also gives access to some fun gadgets for the troops now, love the Needle Grenade in paticular and the fact that all units can be upgraded to carry two gadgets make for some great customization in that regard.

The game itself also seems a bit more...aggressive. More missions from the looks of it and Meld hunt can really screw you over if you are not careful in Ironman mode as you have to balance hunting with defense. Also seems to be a bit more special Council Missions, among other things I got a fun little Zombie Apocalypse mission which pitted me against a ton of Zombies and Chrysalids in a fishing village. Don't know if that mission was there before, but it was my first time seeing it and it was fun.

New maps are also great and adds a lot of variety.

Just my 2 cents so far.

You're not the first to boast about giving super legs to a sniper, but I'm afraid the mectrooper wins on the new stuff front for me, purely because of kinetic strike which I have dubbed the FIST OF JUSTICE.

Oh yes that is fun. You have not lived until you have Kinetic Punched a Chrysalid through at least 2 walls / 2 stories down. Personally running an Assault Trooper Mech and that 33% damage reduction on enemies within 4 tiles combined with Kinetic Fist makes him perfect for all melee needs. Above mentioned Zombie missions was primarily with him in front to soak up and punch the Chrysalids as they appeared.

Still the only thing I find kind of annoying about Mech's is that they kind of invalidate any reason to get a SHIV, at least until you can get the Hover SHIV (That height advantage) I really think SHIVs should have gotten some upgrades or changes now that Mechs are there, cause Mechs are just better SHIVs in so many ways (though also slightly more expensive). Still I might bring 2-3 SHIVs for the last mission anyway just to fuck with those mind control bastards, the only advantage they still have.

Nothing better than getting to that final room, picking of the two brute guards and then send in a small squadron of SHIVs (once ran the mission with 5 Hover SHIVs). Completely flattened the final boss.

So I was running a Sniper with my above mentioned idea of build and it was quite amazing, this fast stealthy sniper moving across the roofs picking of enemies quickly became my main squad member so I named her after another hadcore girl with a big gun, Seras Victoria from Hellsing Ultimate.

So I get her to the level where the soldier earns a nickname and what does Seras get? Vampire! It is just so amazingly fitting I can scarcely believe it is a coincidence.
