Who are your top five video game protagonists?

As the title says, who are your favourite video game protagonists you have played with?
Personally, mine are:

Link (Legend of Zelda series)
Big Boss/Naked snake (Metal Gear solid 3, Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops)
Commander Shepard (Mass Effect Series)
Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 4)
Ezio Auditore Da Firenze(Assasins Creed 2, Assasins Creed Brotherhood, Assasins Creed Revelations)

Just PROtagonists? 'kay

- Shepard of course (ME 1, 2, 3)
- Sonic the Hedgehog (<-, NOT the new generation games, just the old Sega games )
- The Warden (DA:O + Awakening)
- Alice (Amercican McGee's)
- Arche (Fortune Summoners)

I don't actually play a whole lot of 1st/3rd person games, so that was quite the task for me

Dont know what my top 5 is, but i can certainly mention some of my favorites:

Link (Legend of Zelda)

Had you asked me a few years ago Link would not appear on my list as very few things can truly be pinned on him personality vice even if he looks bad ass. But with Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword he has slowly gained more personality.

Sure it is nothing groundbreaking, but his motivations were well defined and he got a few personality traits, but he is still what his name implies, our Link to the world.

Samus (Metroid):

Before I start here please do not try to start a larger discussion on Other M. I dident dislike it as much as others and I have spent way to much time arguing with others regarding that.

But what is it with Samus which makes me like her as protaganist? Well her amazing willpower is one part. With backstory which makes a greek tragedy look tame she nonetheless pushes forward through hordes of enemies, often alone on a foreign planet. It is an amazing strength and unlike most armed and armored shooting protagonist there is more beneath the surface, a sadness when she sees allies fall, but also capacity for mercy (as long as your not a Space Pirate).

Cynder (Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon)

This one is probably a surprise, but Dawn of the Dragon is a game I really liked, especially the second protagonist Cynder.

It may be because I am drawn to people with a tragic past or great internal struggle as Cynder certainly carries both in once having been brainwashed by the big bad of the series and having to live knowing the horrors she caused and might cause again should she lose control.

But she remains strong in spite of this and carries on alongside Spyro.
