Re: Valve's SteamOS and SteamBox
Ten virtual bucks says someone posts the neutral response within the first 15 posts. Also, I think it looks pretty awesome. The streaming feature in particular could be a huge boon for people without the money to spend insane amounts of cash on an awesome rig or five.

Here's wondering how it'll compete with the Xbone.

Re: Valve's SteamOS and SteamBox
I am interested but in no rush to get it.
Would be useful in my living room situation, potentially.

This sounds like a cool development, especially the ability to stream from another PC - I could see building a cheap, small PC for the living room to accomodate it. In fact if it's any good, I'd think twice before getting a PS4 - I mostly game on PC, but like to have a Playstation around as well.

I think this could be a positive for PC gaming, if for no other reason than to provide an alternative to Windows. The problem with Linux has always been a "chicken and egg" one where developer support is limited because consumer interest is limited because developer support is limited. Valve may have just laid a massive egg with SteamOS in combination with their other announcements this week.

Not sure what to make out of this personally. Valve makes pretty good products so will have to check it out once it comes out.

Re: Valve's SteamOS and SteamBox
Between Steam Machines (One could almost say... Steam Engines? I'll get my coat.) and SteamOS, I think Valve is poised to give consoles one whacking big kick up the back side in the living room. Will this kill consoles? No, of course not. The only thing that will kill consoles is the time when they are no longer cost effective to make, which is a long way off. However, what this WILL do is boost PC sales and bring the power of PC gaming to a wider audience whom might have been turned away by the frankly kind of daunting nature of the PC. It will be good for existing PC gamers because it will give a more open platform for them to work on and also might encourage developers to put more effort into their PC versions. Plus, I think it might be good for indie developers since it will bring Steam Greenlight to a wider audience. Overall, this is a great day for PC gaming.
