ME:A speculation Empty ME:A speculation

Post by Yemeth Sat May 21, 2016 12:17 pm

I know many/most/all of you have given up on ME:A, but I'd like to write down some speculation / wishful thinking about where the game might go.

The key issue is of course that we're leaving for another galaxy. Many believe this is because Bioware wants to avoid returning to the ending discussion in any way. Proposed solution / alternate reason (speculation): The reapers dominate our galaxy. They harvested it for millennia. They cannot be beaten by conventional means. The crucible is probably a reaper trap. Thus we escape to Andromeda by some means to find old remnant tech that may eventually help us fight back. The reapers essentially win the battle for earth and create a human reaper. They also send someone after us (see below).

Another interesting point: the DLC cycle for ME3. All DLC that came out after the ending (fiasco) followed through on the IT premise. There was no change of plans. Leviathan explains the origins of the "catalyst". Omega hints at Cerberus gathering resources to build the human reaper. Citadel foreshadows an enemy Shepard and also includes a myriad of quotes which point at the correct ending choice. Citadel was also the last DLC, the same as Arrival was in ME2, which introduced the key topic of the next game. Why should Bioware follow through on their plans despite the ending controversy and then discard everything with the next game?

And finally, there is the leak. These points especially raised my interest:
* Enemies are described as a bipedal cross between Vorcha and the Collectors
* The non-human enemies were described as dropping into combat from Cerberus ships
* One of the antagonists is a human soldier with armor similar to the main character but without the N7 insignia
(Source: http://gamerant.com/mass-effect-andromeda-leak-new-gameplay-details/)
This is very speculative, but a cross between Vorcha and the collectors could be a human version of collectors, no? Spelling out "human" would give away too much, so it was veiled. Husks were always very "basic", the collectors were much more functional. Their combat tactics were way more sophisticated, they used weapons, they were "running baseline genetic comparisons between their species and humanity". A human version of these would look horrifying and make for great enemies. They also drop from Cerberus ships, so the indoctrinated Cerberus forces followed us to Andromeda. Even better, remember the guy who was re-built by Cerberus in ME2, has a lot of synthetics in his body, questions his true identity multiple times, is doubted intensely by the Virmire survivor and would have looked even more like Saren according to early concepts of ME3, leading to the confrontation with the VS? Yeah, Shepard. Why point this out? "One of the antagonists is a human soldier with armor similar to the main character but without the N7 insignia". I say this is indoctrinated Shepard, leading the Cerberus forces against our hero. (or a substitute if the player picked destroy)

I know, reckless speculation, mostly based on the leak, the DLC cycle for ME3, and of course the great buildup to the finale of the trilogy that simply MUST lead somewhere, in my opinion. Just wanted to put this out there. Wake up, Shepard.

Cheers.

I have thought along these lines myself. It'd be awesome, but I'm not counting on it.

If we're going to Andromeda, but destroy was the right choice, then what happened to Shepard? Did not get indoctrinated, but galaxy was harvested anyway? Seems anti-climactic and strange to skip the fate of Shepard.

I'm hoping against all hope, but somehow I don't see it happening.

I really have no idea what to make of this damn game. All i remember is a cowboy song and callofdoodie jetpack in that one trailer. We literally know nothing about the plot except going to a new galaxy like wtf? I seen that leaked footage with the krogan but who knows if that was a april fools joke. To me mass effect isnt mass effect without shepard garrus tali joker etc so how could bioware just forget about all those ppl and go to a new galaxy. I wanna have hope that this game is just a filler introducing new characters for the future and well have shep come out of rubble at the end setting up mass effect 4 but i dont trust ea or bioware. I feel like with all the backlash because of the ending we got screwed out of what the next mass effect was supposed to be and instead we are gonna have a dragon age inqusition mass effect hybrid with a bunch of awful filler collection exploration quests. Seriously inqusition wasnt bad but holy crap were the side missions awful

No, that is not an alternate reason. The reality of the situation is that we're in Andromeda over real world concerns. You're proposing that we're there over storyline concerns. Those are two very different scenarios.

It makes no sense that we'd be in Andromeda over storyline concerns because storyline concerns are malleable. They can write whatever scenario they choose. Being in Andromeda pisses all over both lore and common sense.

The static buildup design flaw is a mechanism the Reapers have used to keep organics contained for a billion years. How was this subverted?

The Reapers don't suffer from this design flaw themselves. And they're faster than our ships. A LOT faster. So why aren't they already at Andromeda to greet us with death when we get there?

Even at Reaper's speed, it would take over 200 years to get to Andromeda. Even if our ark ship moved at Reaper speed, which it can't, that's 400 years not counting whatever needs to be done there. No matter what happens, the Milky Way will be harvested of all advanced life. The galaxy will be empty when this ark gets back, no matter how fast it may be. And yes, BW has actually acknowledged the distance to Andromeda and cited it as the reason that this game will take place "in the far future."

When the fuck did we build this ark? Back when no one important believed the Reaper threat was real? Or after the invasion when all, and I cannot stress "all" enough, resources are being put into the Crucible? There's nothing left to spare to make an Ark, and even if there were, there aren't enough scientists to research the technology necessary because they too are all working on the Crucible. We cannot have both the Crucible and an ark. And we have the Crucible. Do the math.

I could go on, but the point is obvious. Putting the story in Andromeda is completely ridiculous if they plan to continue the story. It's so absurd that it guarantees the story will be trash. Would we even WANT them to continue the story if they're going to follow up the brilliance of ME3 with Twilight-tier drivel?

But I digress. There's only one scenario that makes any sort of sense. We're not getting a continuation, we're getting some random shitty Space Marine nonsense with the Mass Effect title on it. Believe me, it's better to accept the reality of the situation now than wait for the bite of release day to confirm your fears. Seriously. I know I sound like a downer but I really am trying to help. It's gonna feel like a shot to the gut if you're hoping for a reveal in MEA and get... what we're getting.

i'm kinda expecting a bullshit retcon of sorts to be honest,to allow themselves justification for completely screwing everyone over with ME3. We will probably get a SWB clone or a ME3 multiplayer rehash.

still not good.

Rif, I'm absolutely aware that ME:A could be a disaster storywise, and you bring up valid points. But for now, I will give them the benefit of the doubt. I may be disappointed, but then I will move on.

After E3, which is soon, we'll know more (hopefully).

P.S. I don't want to delve too much into speculation, but maybe they'll pick up from the "there are other plans to put in motion... continuity of civilization to consider" line and the Ark is essentially a Galactica that escapes during the war. Granted, building this Ark would come as much out of the blue as the crucible itself in ME3 (not counting mild foreshadowing in Shadow Broker). I wouldn't be too happy about that, however, unless there is a reveal.

P.P.S. The crucible which came out of nowhere and the idiocy that all races pour all resources into it felt contrived to me too, but I accepted it as it served the "greater good" of the overarching plot.

yeeha!! lets stap our boots on and giddy up on over to good old andromeda, where the sheep are scared and the plotholes shine. A place of eternal beauty running at 900p on the XBone. A place where for some reason we are. We can meet new friends, explore new deux ex machina, be amazed at how high we can jump up rocks. A place where we get to see a new frontier (despite covering but a fraction of the milky way so far). Learn even more ways that one button press can control so many things. Be astounded at the utter lameness of the plot, which only a four year old with a learning problem could conjure up. Get to enjoy the paywalls and DLC that opens up the game and promises much then fails to deliver......again.

Yeehaw.

I did not say it could be, I said it will be.  Major difference.  The likelihood of ME:A dealing with ME3's catastrophe of an ending are <1%.

You can say "well we'll discuss the possibility", and I'll say we can also discuss the possibility that one of us wins the mega-lottery, buys BW from EA, and produces it ourselves.  Because it's about as likely.  The entire reason the Stupid Door forum was founded was because we wanted to separate the random nonsense with no logical backing from the intelligent discussion.

After E3, which is soon, we'll know more (hopefully).

After Thessia was already lost, the asari build an ark capable of reaching another galaxy.  Seems legit.

P.P.S. The crucible which came out of nowhere and the idiocy that all races pour all resources into it felt contrived to me too, but I accepted it as it served the "greater good" of the overarching plot.

That's why virtually everyone agrees the Crucible was a Reaper trap.  Or if you believe the Leviathans aren't in on it with the Reapers, a Leviathan trap.

It's hyper-advanced tech and it's designed to be used without being understood.  This describes the Citadel, mass relays, and the Crucible.  It's not a coincidence that the Crucible perfectly fits the description of other Reaper traps and very little else (I can only think of the Shadow Broker's whole deal and I wouldn't be at all surprised if that turned out to be a Reaper thing too).

The Crucible is only a retarded asspull if it's legit, and we've seen little to indicate that it is.  Thus far, no major plot point has been a retarded asspull.  Definitely nothing on the level of an ark.

ME:A speculation Empty Re: ME:A speculation

Post by windsurfing Tue Jun 14, 2016 7:38 am

That survey leak was right all along. Tempest name for this new ship they will use once they reach Andromeda, now Gamble has tweeted

Mike Gamble wrote:Hello, my name is _____ Ryder
.

The rest of the conversation confirms that is the new protagonist. I don't know but that character looks awful lot like Anita Sarkeesian. Given how so much SJW BS and LGBT brainwashing that has been getting into Bioware's main focus than actual lore and proper game development, Andromeda might be a SJW RPG with the name Mass Effect slapped on it.

It is slowly becoming a major hint the game is a dud, key people leaving, no game play videos at EAplay, no actual details on the reasons for even going to Andromeda. Nothing.

I did notice one thing in that video. it seems that large transport vessel/ARK they will use to go to Andromeda (not the Tempest), was being escorted by scores of Alliance style warships, at least thats what they looked like to me. The Kodiaks looked pretty much the same standard models. To me hints at this was an Alliance led thing albeit a galaxy wide effort.

Now here is where I add my own speculation. I know I might be giving too much credit to Bioware at this point but what the heck.

So the Galaxy was saved. I am ignoring refuse ending as that is a real pain in the butt to reconcile, one even Bioware are now clearly going to ignore. It is pretty clear now the entire effort is happening after the reapers have been defeated. It just simply cannot happen while the war was going on. Resource is one issue but keeping it under tight wraps is another. TIM had agents throughout the Alliance, which means the Reapers know of it too through indoctrinated TIM. If bioware are going to be that stupid to handwave all of that and still have this endeavor start during the war then  Laughing  good luck with the franchise it just went deep down the toilet.

Now keeping it with the thought that Bioware do some have some common sense left this whole thing is happening many many years after the war with the reaper threat neutralized. So whats the need to go off to Andromeda? Anyone thinking from the outside who has no clue of the lore would think of probably a 2-3 ideas like these. They are going away because a catastrophe has befallen the Milky Way. Another reason would be they are simply going on a exploration mission, ok fair enough but there are some problems with this latter idea, unless those are also fleshed out it is less digestible because those who know the lore would call bullshit.

First one is pretty understandable, major crisis everyone needs to escape the galaxy. Ok something to go on no matter how lame it is given how ME3 ended, still a plot direction. The 2nd one though is just not realistic, Systems Alliance even though a galactic front for Human interests backed by the most powerful earth nations it is still with the flaws that of a bureaucracy. Unless the fire is literally under their bums they wont move to act on something as casual as "deep exploration" just because science demands it. This sort of thing fits a privateer group, Mass Effect universe has plenty of accounts of deep space exploration missions done by small groups or races with small crews like the Quarians with the Idenna. Now this is much more riskier long haul sleeper mission for goodness knows how many years, all for scientific curiosity, sure for a crazy passionate small group but not a chance with world governments and larger bureaucracy. I don't have to explain the shit storm politicians will kick up about money and resources especially when everyone are probably still recovering even after many years have passed since the war with the reapers.

So I am going with major catastrophe theme here. Battle won with reapers but now they have a new problem one so severe they have to find home elsewhere. Key thing to note is that Bioware states you are out in Andromeda to find Humanity a new home. Why do you need a new home when the one back in Milky way is just fine? Since other Aliens are in it together now this means all those races are also out to look for a new home for their respective races, while we are going to play the part of Humanity's search. The final sequence in the teaser shows the hint of desperation and urgency in the mission when the protagonist wakes up and realizes they have reached their destination.

What could possibly be bad after the reapers? Dark energy plot. Bioware resurrects this arc and fleshes it out to something along the lines of without the reapers now this is a major problem, they learn that the reaper's had a method to their madness and their true intentions where to stop dark energy from consuming the whole galaxy. I know starbrat says otherwise and talks as if their goals are simply to stop synthetics killing organics, circular logic BS. So Milky Way is doomed and the situation may or may not be reversible so they pack bags and head over to Andromeda because council races find justification for such a galaxy wide endeavor. The trip takes many many years, centuries, there will be technobabble to justify it.

What of Shepard? If that N7 day teaser was not just symbolic but Shepard actually addressing the crew going to Andromeda, then that implies destroy ending is cannon. Shepard survives but we wont get to interact with him even as a cameo role at some point for Shepard. He will be long gone dead by the time your protagonist reaches Andromeda. Shepard's last moments as to what really happened at ME3's end remains a mystery. I am obviously ignoring control and synthesis, even if i don't speculate this mission to Andromeda given what we know makes no room for greenified races in Milky way or reaper god shepard helping them build this Ark like thing. Better yet, why don't they let control ending lovers have the option of having reaper god Shepard and his band of reaper merryships lead the way to Andromeda? They surely can do it if they really wanted to, they don't even need to risk so much time and resources to build an Ark, the reapers themselves are large vessels that can hold so many personal. Reapers seemingly have the means to accomplish it too. But we know from what we are shown so far control is not feasible nor is synthesis.

I.T will not be addressed as we don't get to know much about what Shepard really faced in the final moments of ME3.

This theory has big problems which I fully realize, eg: the Tempest and some of the technology looks very advanced even for the ME timeline that we know of. Can all of that be just explained away as advancements in 20-30 years while Shepard is still alive to address the departing crew? Then again if Bioware are wanting to go to Andromeda a few huge plot problems are a given. Bioware seem awfully over confident people will just lap everything thrown out there wholesale. If you look at all their groupies singing their praises Take my money!, I cant breath!, Hyped! I think any BS Bioware pulls now will be even defended by those lot. They don't even care how ME3 ended what happened to the lore is not important to them. I have no doubt in such a case Bioware is going to lose a lot of their older fanbase but in the process they might very well get new fans who care only about wifus and husbandus, plus anyone who digs their transgender, LGBT stuff.

Firstly, I am highly dubious about parting with my money for any more Bioware shit.

Question. What happened to Mass Effect being a hard core sci-fi RPG?

OK from the trailer.....

I see lots of pretty space vistas.

I see an evacuation of sorts. They appear to be in a hurry. I've suggested in the IT thread that it would appear that the crucible is docked to the ark ship. The more I look at the picture, the more I see the fucking crucible. I see many Alliance ships in close formation around the Ark. Are they protecting it? I dunno. Possibly. The ship is huge in scope. It appears to be over a hugely populated planet. I guess this is a Human inhabited planet. The question is still why would any ship go to Andromeda? The Reapers? If so then who chooses who will go?

We're going to Andomeda. Whoever goes will wake up long after the Human Race has become extinct in the Milky Way anyways. There will be nothing to go back to. It seems to be a way of distancing themselves from having to answer the 'shepard' question anymore.

Space Magic Wins.

just seen this....

"/u/MarlaColt made a post which pointed to the interview, and I posted a translation of the questions and answers (summarized) in the comments, but this is pretty big, so I want it at the top level.
Are you going to keep quests with several conversation options? Yes, the devs intend to give everyone the possibility to play the game as they wish.
Are you worried you'll lose part of the public by abandoning the character of Commander Shepard? No; the game is a new adventure, Shepard's story was done, and it would be stretching the story (hard to translate; overreaching?) to keep going with the same character. They did wish to ensure all of the elements that were loved about the first games will return; here, the dev mentions relationships with characters, races, powers, and combat dynamics. The idea was to get these things back in with a breath of fresh air. The dev also mentions the fact that whereas Shepard knew the universe he was in, the new galaxy will be unfamiliar both to Ryder and the player, which will allow the player to better influence Ryder's personality.
Can you talk about gestion of companions? Will there be, as in previous episodes, quests linked to their loyalty? "Absolutely." The dev mentions that they know these elements were very important to fans.
Have you planned a multiplayer mode, and can you talk about it? It will be very similar to Mass Effect 3, with additional elements of freedom during combat (as with singleplayer combat). The goal is to make combat more dynamic and to add more "chaos" thanks to Frostbyte.
Will there be ship customization? Vague answer; it is important to the devs that the player may 'own' their environments by customizing them, but it is ambiguous whether or not this will only be cosmetic.
Do you know how many planets will be in the game's final version? Can you about them to us? "In terms of game size, it's our biggest yet" (ambiguous if they mean just for ME or for Bioware in general). Environments will be inspired by what they tried to do in ME1. Planets will generally have only one biome, inspired by things like Star Wars.
What about the strategic or diplomatic aspect with the different races of the galaxy? The same tools that were previously available in Mass Effect (conversation, combat) will be available to influence these things, and it will be tied into the exploration aspect; "the order in which things are done will also have an influence". Seems to imply Inquisition's war table system won't be around.
We've seen a female human at the end of the trailer. Will it be possible to choose the race and sex of our hero? Very interesting here, so I'll translate the whole answer word for word: "Well, ultimately Mass Effect was always about humanity's place in the galaxy. This remains at the center of Mass Effect: Andromeda; yes, having more defined characters allows us to have a story which might be more refined on that front, but as I was saying, since we still have this notion of freedom, without going into details, we're trying to give a little bit more." The dev clearly hints at a 'yes' for the interviewer, but he stays vague. I guess it might just be hype.
What will be the role of our hero in the galaxy? Will we be a soldier, an archaeologist, an explorer? The role will be "vast" with a versatile character. The hero's goal is to find a "new home for humanity and the races accompanying you" and this kind of environment requires a character with many qualities.
Will we have more information on the race of the Protheans? "The goal is to reward players with information like this, but not to flood new players with missing information."
For those who speak french, here's the interview: "

Yeah so it isn't just about humanity searching for a new home. I suspected as much.
