Favourite Movies
Right, anyone got a list of their favourite movies and would anyone like a discussion about films and stuff here?
For me, it's so hard:
1. The Lord of the Rings (Eff you, I'm not choosing one :P)
2. Forrest Gump
3. Seeking a Friend for the End of the World
4. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
5. Juno
Yeah, some odd choices up there, but there are loads of other films that could easily have got in: Shawshank Redemption, XMen First Class, Pulp Fiction et al.

Re: Favourite Movies
In Bruges is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. Highly recommend it. It's a very humane black comedy about a couple of assassins and their boss.

Re: Favourite Movies
Shaun of the Dead is probably my current favorite movie.
Its not high art or the best movie ever made or anything, but it is very entertaining.

Re: Favourite Movies
*challenge accepted*
But I'm gonna leave out the usual suspects like Pulp Fiction or Star Wars or LOTR etc I think most of us share.
But no numbering, as I can't put one above another. Sometimes I can rewatch a particular movie 5 times in a row, sometimes I need a one year break from it.
American Beauty, American Psycho, Babel, Big Lebowski, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Fight Club, Breakfast Club, Crash, Contact, Dazed and Confused, Drive, Forrest Gump, Modern Times, The Time Machine (both movies), Tron Legacy, Watchmen...
and other stuff I forgot.
Watched Tree of Life recently`, the supposedly biggest movie ever planned. Absolutely not something I'd call a favorite, but definitely keeps me thinking about it. Did you guys see it? And if so, did you like it?

Re: Favourite Movies
Favorites are the standart ones: Star Wars 4-6, LotR, Dark Knight Trilogy, ...
Others I liked were Inception, Sucker Punch (believe it or not), Ring 1+2, Sin City, Kill Bill, Matrix 1 (maybe even 2, definitely not 3), Forrest Gump, Minority Report, Silence of the Lambs, Sinister, V/H/S, Traumschiff Surprise and Der Schuh des Manitu (german comedy, dunno if there're english versions), Hangover
I'm sure I forgot some, maybe I'll add them later
@maximized, haven't watched Tree of Life, what's it about?

Yeah, I remember watching Schuh des Manitu in the Cinemas. The whole theater cracked up during the mine wagon scene.
Tree of Life is about...well...difficult to say, because if you look at it from a literal point of view (literal as in the ME3 sense) it's a high quality home video about a conservative Texan family in the 50's of how one of their kids grows up. But somewhere the producer got bored and threw in some random 'artsy' shots of Sean Penn wandering around. Then, he got bored even more and cut in a tidbits of how Earth and the life on it came to be.
Then, there's a non-literal point of view. And there exists a description of what the movie is supposed to depict, but to me it looked like something different.
I think this is one of those movies one has to watch for him or herself and figure it out what it means to them. It's not mainstream at all, even though it has Brad Pitt and Sean Penn in it. It is artsy, and you could divide the audience in two kinds:
-one of them thinks that it might show something deep and meaningful to people.
-the other one thinks that art buffs will interpret anything in the most random stuff.
I dunno, the discussion about it just reminded me of the ME3 IT vs literal.
If you have some time and dunno what to watch, go ahead and watch it and tell me what you think. I don't think it's worth reading a short summary of the movie, as it won't make much sense that way.
