There are at least a few fans out here since it came up in 2 threads already, so I guess it's worth a thread of its own.

About the games: The best Fantasy turn-based strategy franchise ever IMO. I played only III, IV and V yet though.

Also, feel free to discuss Might and Magic itself here. I didn't play any of the games, but I would be curious if some of you have.

Let's start with this.

Who knows him?

How about using Crag Hack, Tazar, Gem or Sandro? Some of the most iconic heroes.

Also Darkstorn, Gunnar, Dace, Lord Haart, Christian, Yog, etc.

It's just because awesomely overpowered. Also, Gelu is probably one of the two most important heroes in the end of HoMM III's story ;)

I still occasionally play Heroes III and IV on hotseat. I've played all HoMM games though.

If I'd have to rank them, it would go something like this:

III>=IV>V>II>=VI>I

Played also Dark Messiah of Might & Magic and liked it a lot.

I also have an old map site:

Personal favourite is Allyria, but Trapped Inside the Beast won a SP map contest over ten years ago.

Looks awesome, I think I'll check your maps later, gives me a reason to play again :)

Can you tell me about Dark Messiah and HoMM VI a little, what you liked/disliked in them? I was thinking of getting both but haven't decided yet.

Dark Messiah

+ Physics
+ Action
+ Melee Mechanisms
+ Variety in terrains
+ Spiders

Yeah, it's a pretty much 5 star game for me. Definitely get it for PC though, the console version forces you to choose between three different classes (Fighter, Rogue, Mage) while PC version allows you to mix them up.

MM:H VI

+ Graphics
+ Animations (easily the best animations in any of the HoMM games)
+ Units
+ Existing factions
+ Music
+ Quick combat
- Map Editor
- Skill System
- Magic system
- Lack of adventure objects
- Only 5 factions (though the coming expansion adds 6th I believe)
- Conflux
- Lack of maps
- Some of the sound effects

Overall, I'd rate it 3-star game. It is good fun while you first try it, but it gets old fast and since map editor is terrible, there isn't many maps. Also, there is nothing random in Magic or skill systems, you get to choose what you want. Many of the skills are also rather lackluster.

By the way, on the off chance you intend to try Trapped Inside the Beast, I definitely recommend playing it without Equilibrium mod. The mod itself is fine, but since it is a balance mod, it will make some of the battles impossible as the map was balanced for standard HoMM IV.
