Dark Lurker has fallen! My hex specialist has fully come to fruition.

After realizing rings of life protection could be repaired, (is this true in DS1??) I now keep one on me at all times. As a result, I almost always find it worth the soul cost to use the resonant soul line of spells. Man they pack a punch.

Also, profound silence shuts down casters hard, and the AOE is quite good.

Sadly though, I don't really plan to use either climax or life drain patch really. Knowing myself, I'd fire off a climax with 100,000 souls...and miss. Or use life drain patch while backed into a corner. Heheh.

Going to try to collect all pyromancies in NG+. I...threw the lever on Navlaan. *sigh*

Good luck getting Chaos Firestorm then.

As for the life protection rings, no they could not be repaired in DS1 and in DS2 I rarely use them. Only if I am at a boss, dying a lot and want to get my souls out of there (hello Smelter Demon) do I use it. I guess I kinda view them as cheating a bit...

Are you making sure to read the description of the boss souls?

Yeah, kinda feels like cheating after playing through the last half of the game without losing a single soul to death. The biggest reason I keep them on is because I was running low on effigies. I can't stand to walk around looking like a rotting Gumby. Even in DS1, I would ALWAYS play in human mode. (Though the dark flame may entice me to run a purely hollow pyromancer character some time)

Oh, and lucky for me I already plucked Chaos Storm out of the lava in NG.

I've been so busy trying to advance my character and collect spells that I haven't been paying as much attention to the lore as I probably should be. I'm really enjoying what I've seen of it so far though (the story that is). Very interesting focus on rebirth/reincarnation. Also that the dark seems to be...finite. As though it's something, rather than the absence of light. Not sure what to make of that. The finale(?) was pretty neat, but I was totally unprepared for the game to be over. Most likely because I was rushing ahead once I got into the castle.

Ah well, I'm on to NG+! Already so different. I am excite!!

NG+ is pretty neat.

Though regarding the boss souls I was mostly wondering if you read Narshandra's souls as it explains what she is and ties into a lot of ideas I have regarding the lore.

Er...nooo, I haven't.

*dives back in to the game and reemerges*

Very very interesting. I was thinking along those lines. Will have to check into more of the higher level souls soon.

That would be a good idea, much of the lore comes from the souls :)

Really enjoyed DaS2. Is Drangleic Lordran or are the Giants the large humans from Lordan over the sea?

Drangleic seems to be located where Vinheim lay during the time of Dark Souls 1, this is brought up by the Lingering Dragoncrest Ring which mentions it was used in a land which lay where Drangleic is now. In Dark Souls 1 the Lingering Dragoncrest Ring came from Vinheim. In Dark Souls 1 the ring was also sold by Griggs of Vinheim.

As for the giants I think they came from what was once Lordran as it was mentioned the King stole some power from them, which caused them to attack. This power was in all likelihood the remains of the Old Souls as evidenced by these being available from bosses in NG+...but I am not sure on that part.

The giants share an interesting similarity to the dragons though. The fact that they upon death sprouted into trees, tree that bear the seeds of the great trees of Lordran, is similar to the Ancient Dragon of the Dark Souls dragon covenant, which was becoming one with the trees around it.

Writing this I get an idea that maybe it even created the giants in some way...

In Dark Souls 2 once one gets the Key that allows one to enter the Giants Memories, one can head back to where on fought Duke's Dear Freya and enter the dead dragon's memory. Inside one finds a ruined landscape with what looks like the destroyed remains of the Trees of the Ashen Lake of Lordran in the background. A single dragon corpse can be found here, though it is not exactly the same as the dragon from DS1.

Off course this might go further back to Gwyn and his forces battle with the dragons, but if it is the DS1 dragon, slain and the trees destroyed, could its death then have caused the creation of the giants from the remains of those great trees, explaining why they turn to trees upon death?

Edit:

This is just a very basic sample of the idea as the further I think about it, especially the Ancient Dragon of the Ashen Heart memory being the Ashen Lake dragon, the more questions and connections crop up, some in support, some against. Laying it out would take a lot of time, but if people want to discuss it I will lay out my ideas and thoughts.

On a similar note I think Heide's Tower of Flame holds the answer as to what happened to the real Gwynewere of DS1.

That is just speculation on my part though, but that is part of the beauty of Dark Souls lore, right?

Okay, so we just got 3 pieces of DLC for Dark Souls 2 announced, dealing with 3 crowns of kings of old. Here is the description of the first part:

Crown of the Sunken King, the first chapter in the trilogy, sends players on a journey to reclaim the crowns that Drangleic's King Vendrick once owned. Crown of the Sunken King features an entirely different world within the DARK SOULS II universe, where stepped pyramids span a vast underground cavern. It is said that one of the ancient crowns lay buried deep within these dark caverns; but surely such a valued item cannot sit unguarded. Players that seek adversity and glory will be rewarded with a crown that holds the strength of lords from times long past.

The two others are Crown of the Old Iron King and Crown of the Ivory King.

So, um, I know you all have been talking about Dark Souls 2, but I just started DS1, so I figured I should come here. Um, the two skeletons in the graveyard are one of this game's bosses, right? Because they're currently managing to kick my ass even worse than the Asylum Demon (I got him on my second try, IIRC). I've managed to kill them once, but they came back. Is that normal for bosses in this game? *start whimpering*

Nope, they are normal enemies, you are just not supposed to go that way yet  Joyful

Alright, I had wondered about that. Hm, time to start exploring again. I already found a bunch of stuff in a cache of chests, but there must be more that I need to find.
