British author Iain Banks (aka Iain M Banks) is very seriously ill and probably won't be with us for very much longer. Following James Herbert's untimely passing a few weeks ago, this has upset me a bit, probably because they are two writers that I grew up with and who between them penned some genuinely memorable stuff.
