Show beginning was so very hit and miss.

Cheezy, yet sincere?

Bad, yet good CGI?

Awesome, yet utterly horrible writing?

A mess, basically. Hopefully it gets better, because it has seeds of being awesome, but seemed so focused on dumping everything on us, regardless if it was believable looking or even enjoyable.

I didn't watch it, but my mum watched half of it. Said the plot made no sense, glazed over everything and just carried on as if everything had been explained.

Not a good start. I suspect the actual 'pilot' plotline is in the game.

Since the first episode is now out, the Pre-Episode 1 Mission in the game no longer exiats so I will say what happened and how it affected the show.

Basically, the mission starts with your character running into Nolan and Irisa at an arkfall. You fight off some baddies who attack you, and they show their thanks by asking you to help them with a job for Varus and you'll get an equal share in the cut. You accept, and go to the target. The target is a gem that Varus claims is a "cultural artifact". However, since he's willing to pay 270,000 scrip for it, Nolan suspects it's more than that and run away with it, but in exchange Nolan gives you his assault rifle he used in his Defiant Few days.

That crystal shows up in the Pilot when they enter the Arkfall in the show. It's the thing they used to activate the device and retrieve the orb that is eventually used to save Defiance. That's why they, when they found it, were talking about how they can pay off Varus.
